On your way from Borama to Baki, the road cuts through tall-standing mountains as the traveler sneaks looks of the deep valley gorges below. Tucked away behind these long mountain chains lined with clumps of greenery and families of grazing goats, Baki is a district truly defined by its agriculture. Towering ancient trees of winding branches and thick, sometimes multiple trunks sit beside roads and farmlands, making even the tallest person feel small. With around 170,000  residents, the district is also home to the cities of Baki and Dilla. With “Old Baki” sitting miles away from the bigger and relatively newer city, there’s no denying the district’s growth both by populace and commerce potential. Baki’s fertile land is both untouched and already laid out in huge squares of farms and plantations. Not only is Baki abundant in agricultural business, but the mountains of the district are filled with mineral deposits such as coltan and beryllium, to name a few. Mining of the Simodi Mountains is a crucial and possible future for economic development of not just Baki, but the whole Awdal region.
