The district of Lughaya is defined by its pristine coastline and rich history. With around 115,000 residents, the coastal district is also home to off-shore islands, dry rivers, and small natural lakes. Blessed with natural water placements, the economic potential reveals itself. The district primarily relies on fishing. However, much of its resources are underused as agricultural business is present, yet these fertile lands are far from exhausted. Efficiency and proper management is needed to cultivate these resources and create job opportunities. The UNDP witnessed Lughaya’s resources and reported on the very diverse and special fish populations inhabiting the coral reefs hugging its coastline. As such, with scuba diving and other water sports, Lughaya could be a viable and attractive tourist destination.
